The Beekeepers. Art, Nature, Action, was founded by artists Tom Leamon, Jennifer M White and Pedro Leitão in 2014. Born from a desire to develop and encourage a more intimate working relationship with nature. They were joined by Joe Limmer and Sally Clarke in 2017 and by consolidating their diverse skills in the arts, education and construction they are creating alternative ecologically-friendly accommodation and studio spaces that are embedded within the landscape. The Beekeepers seek to provide the tools and working environment to enable you to experience a new creative home.
The Beekeepers are proud to be based on the land of Quinta da Fornalha, an award winning Bio-dynamic farm that has been run by the Dias family for generations. Set within 30 acres of Quinta da Fornalha's inspiring farmland with mature olive, carob and fruit trees, a lagoon, and neighbouring salt marshes. The Beekeepers offers a unique base from which to explore the beautiful eastern Algarve. It borders a nature reserve and boasts exquisite flora offering guests a chance to embrace nature’s subtleties and calm, whilst only being a few minutes drive from towns and the beautiful beaches the Eastern Algarve is famous for. The Beekeepers now comprises Phaedra, Casa Azul farmhouse, the Birdhouse, the Pit (performance space), the Swimming Pool, the pontoon, and the Studio/ Irish bar plus multi-purpose decking spaces.
We warmly invite you to drop into life at the Beekeepers. The guiding theme to our constructions is “inside-outside” allowing continual exposure to the elements. Nature can be subtle and is ever changing, the spaces are created so you never miss a moment. While staying with us we kindly ask that you respect the land and our efforts towards permaculture and sustainability, consider yourself a steward of this farmland and allow that to influence your choices, particularly in relation to consumption and waste management.
